Looking for that perfect next PM job can be frustrating — where to start, how to approach, where to prepare and finally where should I head. How do I know this? …

  1. I went through this process
  2. There are people making money on this — remember the best validation of customer pain point is… when the customer pays through wallet.

So I decided to write this series of blogs to guide you step by step on this entire process. Before I get on with what this series of blog posts cover, let me be clear about what this doesn’t cover

  1. Obvious but let me remind — this is not a magic bullet. I may have missed out on some points or have covered different topics — please send an email or message so if you want me to cover some more topics or add to what I have written.
  2. Not for first-timers— this article is not for people looking to get into product roles for the first time. I will cover those in another article.
  3. Not a one size fits all — approach in these series of articles will generally apply for all product companies however there is no guarantee for this. Again if there is something you would like me to cover please send a message.
  4. Learnings from failures rather than sermons from wins — For 99% of the time in this series you will read about what I could have done better rather than something that worked for me — so please take this with pinch/grain/bucket of salt.
  5. I don’t have a job at FAANG — so if you are looking for validation specifically through these companies, please check for articles that are specific to these companies.

Alright, now lets get to what this series of articles covers…

  1. Resume — how to get the hiring managers and the team to notice your resume.
  2. Preparation — how to set your self for this marathon. From mindset to stationary.
  3. Exploratory discussion — Your chance to impress — how to ace this
  4. Problem solving round — how to not fall for the traps
  5. Product sense round — Build an app for Elon Musk so he stops fluctuating bitcoin prices so much
  6. Engineering round — not speaketh tech?
  7. Business understanding — more like will-you-say-no-often round.
  8. Team fitment — how to build bond before even you are part of the team
  9. HR round — if you are reading this, I am sure this is amidst party.
  10. Pre-onboarding — preparing yourself for success.

Good luck with the hunt! May you find the best and may the best find you!
